Free PDF from NAS – Science, Evolution and Creationism

In the US, the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) is an organization of eminent scientists who provide pro bono science counsel to the US federal government. They also publish the Proceedings of the NAS (PNAS). Although they cover all areas of Science, the organization has been notably important in providing distinguished support for evolution and expert refutation of creationism and intelligent design through the publication of science information for the public.

In 1999, NAS produced a 48-page brochure called Science and Creationism: A View from the National Academy of Sciences that contained good pro-evolution info in a glossy, easy-to-read format in order to counter the rise of creationsm propaganda in the 90s. In January 2008, NAS has released an updated version of the publication called Science, Evolution, and Creationism. It can be downloaded as a free PDF as long as you are willing to provide your e-mail address. It’s a slick 89-page book that explains and defends evolution at an understandable level and in an attractive format.

The sections of the book are:

  • Evolution and the Nature of Science
  • The Evidence for Biological Evolution
  • Creationist Perspectives
  • Conclusion
  • Frequently Asked Questions
  • Additional Readings
  • Committee Member Biographies

To download the PDF, go to the National Academy Press website. On the left of the webpage in the box that shows the cover of the book, click on the [Sign In] button under the PDF title. The link takes you to a new webpage that asks you for your e-mail address. Once you submit your address, it gives you a link back to the main webpage, and when you return, you get a link to download the PDF file.
