A coworker sent this link my way: http://ca.tech.yahoo.com/experts/chrisnull/article/595

Without any real elaborating so it was hard to tell how much of it was "hey fear this" and how much of that is "haha look what those tin foil hat guys are doing" but for a reasonable guy he does see a chiropractor so considering the possibility that he bought into it I sent him a lengthy reply.

Basically the claim is, because the cell phone companies are trying to discredit the study, that makes it somehow legitimate, which to me is a huge logical fallacy. Yes if the cell phone companies were corrupt they absolutely would try to bury it, and that would not surprise me at all, but similarly if the study is bunk then corrupt of not, the companies would try to burry those studies, to avoid fear spreading like wildfire amongst the uneducated populace, a large chunk of whom are afraid of fluoride.

The linked article is dated today so I think this one will probably be making the rounds.

Ya, damned if you do, damned if you don't. If the cell companies said the study was 'super duper ok', would that mean the study was bunk? I don't get it.

Dr David Gorski did a great summary article on this subject over on Steve Novella's Science-based Medicine blog. He begins the article by joking around about not receiving funding from the telecommunications industry. In the article, he concurs with Steve that this is a difficult area to study in the population and might take at least another decade to see positive epidemiologic results if there is in fact a linkage.

I liked the fact that The Walrus article included a lot of names and details. I was expecting it to be more of a typical scare-mongering piece, but it was fairly credible, if a bit pointed. I'm not sure what the purpose of referring to Larry King was. He's hardly the guardian of scientific truth.

Although I can see cellphone companies not wanting to pay for studies that show a cellphone-brain tumor link, I don't see them forming a dark cabal to suppress positive medical studies in universities. After all, the simple use of a bluetooth headphone prevents the conditions that might cause the problem. A positive finding would likely affect sales, but I don't think the cellphone industry would take much of a sustained hit.

In any case, the dark secret is that it is only iPhones that cause brain cancer.
