Dr David Gorski did a great
summary article on this subject over on Steve Novella's
Science-based Medicine blog. He begins the article by joking around about not receiving funding from the telecommunications industry. In the article, he concurs with Steve that this is a difficult area to study in the population and might take at least another decade to see positive epidemiologic results if there is in fact a linkage.
I liked the fact that
The Walrus article included a lot of names and details. I was expecting it to be more of a typical scare-mongering piece, but it was fairly credible, if a bit pointed. I'm not sure what the purpose of referring to Larry King was. He's hardly the guardian of scientific truth.
Although I can see cellphone companies not wanting to pay for studies that show a cellphone-brain tumor link, I don't see them forming a dark cabal to suppress positive medical studies in universities. After all, the simple use of a bluetooth headphone prevents the conditions that might cause the problem. A positive finding would likely affect sales, but I don't think the cellphone industry would take much of a sustained hit.
In any case, the dark secret is that it is only iPhones that cause brain cancer.
