Elan tackles the age old controversy over whether or not violent video games can make people violent. Adam takes a look at why some sodas may have alcohol, and which ones do not. Darren tries to find a cure for hangovers.
Hey guys, big fan of your show. I have a comment on your video game violence segment.
I agree that Doom did not necessarily cause columbine and that these boys had major problems that were more than likely caused by other factors, but to say that this particular violent video game had no effect on how things played out is inaccurate. Had they not gotten their inspiration from Doom the outcome would most likely have been different. Sure they could have gotten their inspiration from another source that glorifies or popularizes violence but that deosn't mean we should defend any of those sources. Violent games may not be the main cause of violent behaviour but it is obviously playing a role in how violent acts are carried out and to what extent.
Violent video games are a part of media violence and by saying there is no relationship makes skeptics part of the problem when we should be part of the solution.
So aparently the columbine shooters going bowling on the day of is a myth as well as many other details reported as facts on the day. According to a guest on skepticality from a while back. I'm at work and on my iphone now so I'm not gonna look it up but just wanted to mention it. Cheers and thanks for another great show. "j"
