Darren talks about the recent controversy surrounding part of the Canadian census to an optional survey. Xander explores a supposed link between the 80s TV shows He-Man and Dynasty. Elan finds out whether blondes are dumber than brunettes.
On census : if listeners were wondering what kind of privilege the new census would remove. One example is the right of French minority elsewhere in Canada (French speaking Canadian were not only established in Quebec and New Brunswick)to access some services in French (constitution act 1982 article 23 (3)) where the number is sufficient. The new short version doesn't have this data of the mother tongue, consequently, the constitution will not be applied anymore in few years due to the lack of data. Some provinces were already not constitutional regarding this article and the court was supposed to supervise them(Doucet-Boudreau v Nova-Scotia [2003]) how will they succeed now?
Blond stupider? Some thoughts... It was interesting that you assume the myth was mainly for natural blond. I have a feeling people think dyed blond are even dumber. Could the source of this myth also be: -Politically correct(Or jealousy?): People are 'equal' No one can be superior or inferior. So if she's beautiful, she can't be smart as well. (Blond are usually seen as more beautiful, I don't have the study by heart, but in Padget beauty contest blonds are overrepresented) So it could relate to the myth beautiful people are dumber. 2. The majority of blonds have dyed hair (at least in Canada). So one might assumes the purpose to dye in blond is for beauty. Aesthetic and superficiality is often considered in opposition to intelligence.
